Deliver the Ducks
Audio / Produced by The High CallingTranscript
Stanley Marcus finished college and was working in the family department store. A customer in a small Texas town wrote to request baby ducks—Easter gifts for his sons.
Young Mr. Marcus priced the ducks and charged the customer. Then he learned that no shipping service went to the small town. Marcus didn't cancel the order. He hired a chauffeured limousine. It cost three times the price his store had charged for the ducks. The customer only knew that the ducks arrived in high style, easily in time for Easter.
This is Howard Butt, Jr., of Laity Lodge. Neiman Marcus earned its reputation for flawless service—one customer, one challenge, one duck at a time. That's what each of us can do on the duck-orders in our lives—it's the high calling of our daily work.
The money brought into the temple was not spent for making silver basins, wick trimmers, sprinkling bowls, trumpets or any other articles of gold or silver for the temple of the LORD; it was paid to the workmen, who used it to repair the temple. They did not require an accounting from those to whom they gave the money to pay the workers, because they acted with complete honesty.
