Her Way

At a parent-teacher meeting, Julie worried aloud about her pre-schooler. "I see Monique on the playground and she's, well, stubborn," Julie told the teacher. "She waits for others to invite her in. Then she wants everything her way. Or she pouts."

A thought struck Julie: her own behavior at work was just like Monique’s. Julie was slow to initiate, slow to compromise . . . or share. When projects failed to go her way, she acted like—well, like her daughter on the playground. But she could change.
