Laughter Smooths the Way

The Peanuts comic strip was deceptively simple and always entertaining. It was also the creation of Charles Schulz, a family man. When asked where he got his ideas, Schulz admitted that some of his best lines came straight from home.
One evening at dinner, his young daughter was too talkative and loud. Schulz told her to sit quietly and eat. For a few moments silence reigned. Then a ten-year-old voice, dripping with sarcasm said, “Am I buttering my bread too loud for anyone?”
This is Howard Butt, Jr., of Laity Lodge. Not every family’s lighter moments show up in a world-famous comic strip. But family laughter can show up all around us. And laughter smooths the way—in the high calling of our daily work.

Ethics is about knowing and doing what is good or right, and workplace ethics is about knowing and doing what is good or right at work. For the Christian, this means applying the Bible and other resources of the Christian faith to help decide and do what is ethical or moral at work.
