The film Chariots of Fire is full of great statements. One of my favorites is in a conversation between missionary Eric Liddell and his father. Liddell agonizes about whether his running honors God. His father says, "You can glorify God by peeling a potato . . . if you peel it to perfection."
Liddell won a gold medal in the 1924 Olympics. Then he was a missionary in China until his death during World War II. Whether running, preaching the Gospel, or peeling potatoes, he gave his work commitment and excellence.
This is Howard Butt, Jr., of Laity Lodge. In God’s eyes, no act is insignificant. If we are in his will and doing it well, we show his glory to a watching world. It’s the high calling of our daily work.
With this in mind, we constantly pray for you, that our God may count you worthy of his calling, and that by his power he may fulfill every good purpose of yours and every act prompted by your faith. (2 Thes. 1:11)
