Two Boys
Audio / Produced by The High CallingTranscript
Two boys are in a psychological study. One is a pessimist and one an optimist. The pessimist is put into a room full of toys; the optimist, a room full of manure. The pessimist starts to cry, but the optimist asks for a shovel. Later, the pessimist is wailing, but the optimist keeps shoveling.
The doctors ask the pessimist, "Son, why are you so sad with all these toys?” He replies, "If I play with one I'll break it, and get a spanking."
But the optimist shovels away—saying: "With this much manure, there's gotta be a pony in here somewhere!"
I’m Howard Butt, Jr., of Laity Lodge. Where the pessimist sees darkness, the optimist sees hope. As you face this new day, keep shoveling with hope, in the high calling of our daily work.
"The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For out of the overflow of his heart his mouth speaks."
