What’s Your Storm?
Audio / Produced by The High CallingTranscript
It was night, and it was storming. A good night to huddle at home … but the disciples were in a fishing boat on a troubled sea. A boat that bounced high and slammed hard. No visibility. Nowhere near land. The men were terrified. Then into the chaos came Jesus. Walking on the troubled waters. Peter asked if he could join him.
Jesus answered with one word: "Come."
This is Howard Butt, Jr., of Laity Lodge. It’s not the size of the storm that matters. It’s not the impossibility of the job. It’s not the length of the invitation. What matters is the One who asks. When Jesus says, "Come," you can walk in confidence. Anywhere. What is your storm?—in the high calling of our daily work.
But Jesus immediately said to them: "Take courage! It is I. Don't be afraid."
"Lord, if it's you," Peter replied, "tell me to come to you on the water."
"Come," he said.
Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, "Lord, save me!"
Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. "You of little faith," he said, "why did you doubt?"
