“Does My Work Have Spiritual Value?” - Attorney Dwaine Massey

Video / Produced by The High Calling

Recently, we spoke with Houston attorney Dwaine Massey about integrating his faith and work and other questions of leadership. Dwaine feels that the culture around us makes it hard to live a fully integrated life. He says, "Our society wants to create that dichotomy between the spiritual and the natural, between your work life and your spiritual life."

Transcript: I think it's hard to connect the spiritual and the professional in a lot of senses, because our society makes it difficult to do that. Our society sort of wants to create that dichotomy between the spiritual and the natural, between your work life and your spiritual life. We have to fight against that. I think we have to realize that everything we do, we do to the Glory of God. So, whether I'm driving a bus, whether I'm trying a case, or whether I am teaching in a classroom—that should be the guiding goal of my life. So, it's tough. It's easy to just reach [for] your Bible on Sunday, put it in the backseat of the car, and not reach for it again until the next Sunday, but I think we are called on to do more than that. We are called to mesh the two and to live out that life we've been given.
