February 23, 1941 - June 29, 2024
Born on February 23, 1941 in Rockford, IL, Nancy Schuler married Al Erisman on August 25, 1962. The couple soon relocated to Bellevue, Washington, where she and Al raised their family and lived for the rest of Nancy’s life.
Nancy was a tireless worker in Christian education. She served in public relations and then as Director of Development at Bellevue Christian School until her retirement in 1999. Nancy remained passionate about equipping Christian women for the intersection of their work and faith by leading a small group through Westminster Chapel (running for over 27 years), serving on the board of KIROS, and working with the Theology of Work Project. During the formative years of the TOW Project, Nancy contributed to the development of the Theology of Work Bible Commentary. For the rest of her life, she continued as an advisor, supporter, host and friend to the project.
Nancy was admired for her boundless hospitality. Nancy served vulnerable populations both locally and globally, furnishing transitional housing through Hopelink and supporting medical education in Vietnam on the board of MEDRIX. She emanated the heart of Jesus in her career, volunteering with the church and in the community, in hosting family, friends and strangers at dinner parties or as overnight guests, and in selecting and mailing out the perfect greeting card for any occasion.
In April 2024 Nancy was diagnosed with an aggressive brain cancer. After a brief treatment, she died peacefully with her family by her side on June 29, 2024.
Nancy is survived by her husband, Al, son Michael (wife Kathy, daughters Emily, Sophie and Madi), son Andrew (wife Stacy, sons Chandler and his wife Mari, and Logan), daughter Amy (husband Sam, children Amira and Daniel), brother, Norm (wife Connie and son Scott), and niece Judy (children Tamara, Patrick and Christopher and his daughter Josie).
